CANADIANS. 118,000 TRAVELLED FROM B.C. TO WASH. STATE. WHY?

"Just over 118,000 B.C. cars entered Washington state at Metro Vancouver crossings in June."

"Now is the time to choose Canada … It might mean changing your summer vacation plans to stay here in Canada and explore the many national and provincial parks, historical sites and tourist destinations our great country has to offer,” Trudeau said...

"In early March, Premier David Eby doubled down, urging British Columbians to avoid travel to the U.S.

'If you have a choice about where to travel, avoid travelling to the United States,” he said."

Why are so many Canadians still travelling to the U.S. in light of America attacking the Canadian economy, causing people to lose their jobs as plants curtail production or close entirely?

"The fear and uncertainty that has gripped Canadians around job losses, inflation and market volatility caused by the despotic U.S. administration — not to mention its attacks on democratic institutions, free speech, higher education and due process."

...The time has come to stand up and be counted. Canada, which can no longer assume the U.S. has its back, needs to draw a sharper line between itself and its unruly neighbour."

Social media is rife with tales of Canadians being turned back or detained at the American border. Currently there are thirty Canadians detained by ICE-Immigration & Customs Enforcement. One French scientist attempting to enter the U.S. for a conference was arrested and is being detained for deportation...to Russia from where he left decades previously.

This Canadian spent two weeks in an ICE detention center.

Jackson, I just read one on Threads in which the writer pointed out the number of indigenous folks who have relatives in Washington. It reminded me of some of my former students who would trek across open waters from the west coast of Vancouver Island to Neah in the Olympic Peninsula.
