On Thursday May 28th, members of the Nanaimo RCMP detachment’s Car 54 program, along with an officer from the Indigenous Policing Section (IPS), visited the Snuneymuxw First Nation.
The visit served a twofold purpose: to support the First Nation’s Mental Health Awareness Week event, and to introduce Constable Ben Caram (pictured far right), who recently joined the Car 54 program. Constable Caram is now the second RCMP-trained mental health officer assigned to this valuable detachment program.
For those not familiar with Car 54, it is a RCMP endorsed program where an RCMP trained mental health officer works side by side with a psychiatric nurse attending to incidents where mental health is factor.
