VIOLENCE INCREASING IN CANADIAN SCHOOLS?

I've experienced several incidents throughout my career and each was resolved without much incident. One involved a junior high student who would attack other students unprovoked. He jumped a 7th grader in the hallway. I had to pull him off. He was expelled for the year.

Another was a 5th grader who became violent and threw his desk. He was heavily medicated on Ritalin. I asked his single mom to wean him off the drug and a couple of days later I spoke with him. His outbursts were retaliation against his absent father. Behavioural modification resolved the issue.

Reading this article it appears to me with 25 years experience that the answer for the incidents is behaviour modification.

HOME COOKED MEALS FOR A SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM

The schools have all the funding from the state/government; they need to sit down and rethink how to spend this money wiser because, let me tell you, I did the math. It is much cheaper to buy 40 pounds of raw chicken breast rather than precooked grilled chicken breast. It’s five times more expensive and worse for you. The school spends so much money on food that is processed because it’s easier to do so but instead [they could] cut down on the cost and get more workers to cook fresh meals.”
