VIOLENCE INCREASING IN CANADIAN SCHOOLS?
I've experienced several incidents throughout my career and each was resolved without much incident. One involved a junior high student who would attack other students unprovoked. He jumped a 7th grader in the hallway. I had to pull him off. He was expelled for the year.
Another was a 5th grader who became violent and threw his desk. He was heavily medicated on Ritalin. I asked his single mom to wean him off the drug and a couple of days later I spoke with him. His outbursts were retaliation against his absent father. Behavioural modification resolved the issue.
Reading this article it appears to me with 25 years experience that the answer for the incidents is behaviour modification.
