WOMEN DIRECTORS. WHY SO FEW?

"Women make up about 49 percent of the world’s population, but have only directed 7 percent of major films since 2007, according to the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative. “Which means the art that’s coming into the world is 93 percent from a male point of view?” Love & Basketball director Gina Prince-Bythewood pointedly asks. “It makes no sense. We’re half the population.”

"It really doesn’t make sense. There are countless talented women filmmakers who rarely get the opportunities or recognition that their male counterparts do. Despite the billion-dollar success of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie or Kathryn Bigelow and Chlöe Zhao’s Best Director Oscars, the industry remains stubbornly male-dominated (and predominantly white) as progress seems to move in slow motion."
