RACISM, BIGOTRY & HATE

RACISM, "DEAR WHITE PEOPLE, THIS IS WHAT WE HEAR WHEN YOU SAY YOU DON'T SEE COLOR".

"The white Western world had often muddied distinction [between superiority and inferiority] to grant itself an illicit authority over nonwhites in inferior positions. The whole point of racism (and sexism, antisemitism, etc) is to seize authority illicitly at the expense of another race." Pg. 100 White Guilt

Forbes Magazine's Dana Brownlee offers her perspective and solutions on discussions regarding race.

"More than two years after the summer 2020 racial reckoning, many organizations have realized the hard way that having productive conversations about race can be both challenging and uncomfortable. Much of the difficulty lie in our fundamentally different perspectives borne out of drastically different life experiences and dreadfully low levels of racial literacy, humility and stamina."

“Please give me credit for not being racist.”

“It’s incredibly insulting to be informed that an aspect of my identity will be treated as ‘unseen’ and ‘erasable.’

Shelby Steele discusses the issue in White Guilt

"To see humanity across racial lines one must see frankly how people of other races live as human being not as members of a race."

Calvin Lawrence in Black Cop references his decades battle within the RCMP and Halifax Regional Police.

"One day when I went to the writing room [to complete reports], somebody had written "Nigger' and 'Coon' and Calvin Lawrence' on the walls.

I wasn't the first person to see the slurs and nobody had said anything about it. My co-workers' silence signaled their complicity."

I must add that I read Calvin's book and his tenacity to stay with law enforcement given the harassment he received is commendable. Thank you Calvin for sharing your journey.
