British Columbia acknowledges the reality that society embraces a wide range of genders by approving legislation allowing a person to change their birth gender without the approval of a doctor or psychologist.

"Youth between the ages of 12 and 19 must also provide proof of support from a parent or guardian, while confirmation from a physician or psychologist is still required for children aged 11 and younger."
