BRITISH COLUMBIA INCREASES REMAND OF REPEAT CRIMINAL OFFENDERS

The province has increased its retention rate by 19%, from 56 to 75% in the pilot program of eighteen months.

Here are the details. The article doesn't note the specific communities but does say the program has expanded to three other cities with Members hoping the Crown in their jurisdiction will join the program and remove repeat offenders off their streets.

"The province says the legal system has increased its effectiveness dealing with violent repeat offenders, with them spending more time in custody and Crown counsel seeking detention more frequently at 84 per cent versus the previous 67 per cent."

Great news for police and greater news for citizens. We are beyond frustrated by the revolving door. Thank you British Columbia!!

KAMLOOPS, BC MEMBERS' PURSUIT ENDED.

UPDATE

Do you have particular incidents which bring back fond memories?

This Kamloops pursuit reminds me of a similar pursuit where a Member from a neighbouring detachment was chasing a stolen vehicle.

I was listening to the chatter when the suspect passed me and stopped at a gas station.

I advised the Members of his location then pulled in behind the suspect.

I don't know if I could do something like that. Kudos to you for helping. Oh, I just looked at McCormick's About page. No wonder. The Mounties obvious know all of that as well which is undoubtedly why they ask for his help,

OFFICER DEFENSIVE KNIFE TACTICS

Having taught these skills to two different agencies and practiced them in multi-agency training sessions, a common response from participants is, "My agency won't allow such aggressive tactics."

This Blue Line article highlights some of the differences employed by various Canadian agencies.

"...how feasible is it to parry a hand armed with a knife aimed directly at your face or throat at full speed, aggression and violence of action, then perform a wrist lock to subdue the attacker? Or how effective would an officer be at trying to deflect a knife thrust aimed at the abdominal region while simultaneously trying to strike the assailant’s face? Remember, we can switch tasks, some more quickly than others, but we do not multitask very well, let alone look at two different objects independently like chameleons."

I remember this training and found there was always someone who felt their training was superior. Simulated attacks from an assailant in a Red Man suit was as close to reality as possible and I found the arm bar worked 100% of the time.

RCMP MEMBER ORDERED TO RESIGN FOR OFFENSIVE POSTS.

The investigation has dragged on since 2021. There is more with the added back stories over the past four years.

They put so much time, effort and heart into becoming a Mountie to have it end this way.

"Const. Solven took an oath to serve and protect the public, and he put aside the oath to degrade members of the public, vulnerable persons and colleagues by posting vulgar, racist and degrading comments, thereby violating the public trust," she said.

I too agree with Ms. Simpson in not understanding how a highly trained officer could go astray so in his career.
