"A release from the Alberta Serious Response Team last year says the officer — now identified as Thompson — was responding to a suspect who had left the scene of a reported stabbing outside a bar in Edmonton's west end.

ASIRT said EPS officers located the suspect vehicle with one man inside at 7:44 p.m. in the area of 98A Avenue, east of 178th Street.

According to the March 6, 2024 release, a police vehicle made contact with the suspect vehicle and stopped it.

It said Thompson engaged and shot the suspect, which resulted in non-life threatening injuries."

This report offers zero explanation for the officer discharging his firearm and yet the very nature of running this article puts a negative veil over the officer and the department.

CBC, this level of journalism is why the network has earned a negative reputation among officers and supporting public.

We have zero reason to believe the Alberta watchdog is any more thorough or competent that its British Columbia counterpart where its reputation is in constant criticism.

"The release on Friday said that ASIRT acting executive director Matthew Block determined Thompson should be charged following a review of the investigation. Block was also advised by the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service that the evidence from the investigation met its standard for prosecution."
