Not sure why a person would trust borrowing someone else's car in this manner. Turo is an American firm and says in its disclosure that it doesn't inspect the vehicles. Is Turo that much cheaper than an authenticated rental firm?
Them searching the vehicle reminded me of a time I was returning solo from my in-laws in Washington State in our ranch pick-up. I was chosen. In the search the agents found a .30/.30 bullet and insisted the rifle was there somewhere. The bullet had slipped out of the holder on my saddle gun and into the seat fold. No rifle was found of course because it was in the safe at home.
The irony for me was that I carried a .38 across the border regularly, with the necessary permits, when training with Seattle Police and King County Deputies.

I'm unsure why Alberta wans to take on the rental company instead of simply advising Canadians not to use the service.
