"Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930. The U.S. was in a depression when Congress passed the bill and Hoover signed it into law. Back then, it did create a trade war. Many economists believe it prolonged the depression. At that time, the U.S. had a trade surplus. That’s not the time to enact tariffs. Tariffs work best when there is a trade deficit, as there is now. Therefore, I think a trade war is unlikely, especially since the U.S. is the largest consumer on the planet and foreign nations need to do business with America." Forbes
It is going to be interesting to see how these next few years evolve, if Americans make it to four. Trump controls the Supreme Court having loaded it with his appointees during his first presidency. He controls both houses and unless the Dems can convince at least three GOP members to join them to challenge Trump's Executive Orders, Trump is free to do as he pleases.
Thank you for the Forbes article. i found it incredibly educational and informative as to the reasons for America's economic aggression.
