Dear Minister Dix:
March 15, 2024
Dr. Jelfimow is retiring this August and Interior Health has denied his replacement operating room time.
We believe this an unfair, impractical and poorly thought out choice.
Dr. Jelfimow’s thousands of ophthalmology patients will have to travel out of town for treatment as the remaining eye specialists are unable to absorb Dr. Jelfimow’s patients.
Many of the displaced patients are elderly and denying the new doctor operating time will create unnecessary hardship on them and their families.
Interior Health’s decision has set a precedent for medical personnel being recruited to fill the provinces much needed vacancies. Who will want to work in a province without bureaucratic support?
We’re asking that Minister Dix review the decision and recognize that operating time is mandatory for an ophthalmologist and grant Dr. Jelfimow’s replacement the required prerequisite.
Thank you for your time and consideration in perusing our request.
